My name is Jeremy Doolin and I’m fulfilling a dream:
to build my own video games.
I’m actually a college professor by day, teaching computer and information technology classes. But when I clock out, one of my favorite hobbies is creating video games. I’ve been teaching myself the craft for several years, and now I’m ready to build something that I can share with the world.
I grew up just when video games were getting big. I still remember sitting on my kitchen floor holding the Atari 2600 joystick, gazing at the 19-inch black and white screen (which was thankfully upgraded to color) playing Space Invaders, Pitfall, Joust, Frogger, Solaris and many other 8-bit classics. Then came Nintendo Mania and the birth of franchises that are still going strong today, like Super Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Castlevania. The 16-bit console wars happened right in the middle of my teen years, and some of my best gaming memories are from that time period, no matter if it was on a Super NES or a Sega Genesis.
Since then I’ve played games in every console generation and own quite a few of them. But nothing has ever topped those retro classics. That’s why the games I develop try to capture the spirit and essence of those 2D, pixel art classics.
