This is arguably the first serious attempt I ever made at developing a video game. For some reason in 2012, the idea of developing a homebrew game for the venerable Atari 2600 took hold of me. I began to research how this is done, including learning how to write Assembly language for the MOS 6502 processor.

The game itself is my idea of what Treasure’s Ikaruga would look like as an Atari game. It is a vertical scrolling shooter with a ship that can switch between black and white and enemies that are one or the other color. The ship’s gunfire changes color with the ship as does the ship’s vulnerability or invulnerability to enemy fire.

I didn’t get very far with the game itself as it took quite a bit of time and effort just to learn enough to get the ship displaying properly and animating its transition. While other projects occupy my time these days, I still intend to return to this project some day.
